Tips for Maintaining your RV

Before you start the Engine

Check the engine compartment, for any critters that may have crawled up onto the engine.

While you are in there, check all fluid levels (Oil, Transmission, and Coolant) to make sure they are full.

Monthly

Check your House and Starting batteries for the proper water level.

Remember, only use Distilled water for topping off wet cell batteries.

Check Tire Pressures.

Check Engine Fluid Levels.

Every 3 Months:

Wash your RV, starting at the roof.

Inspect all Roof sealants for deterioration, and repair if needed.

Slide Toppers: Need to be washed at the same time and 303 sprayed on them to protect the fabric and thread from UV rays.

Slide Gaskets: Need to be cleaned and conditioned with 303 to maintain their pliability and be protected from UV Rays.

Now that the RV is clean, spray wax would make quick work of waxing it.

Hot Water Heaters and RV Refrigeration: The burn chambers need to be inspected and cleaned.

Tires: Your tires should be inflated to the proper pressure, cleaned, inspected, and treated with 303 tire protectants. We hope you are using a Tire Pressure Monitoring System.

Yes, we are a fan of 303, after living in the Caribbean for a couple of years we found that 303 was the only thing that kept the UV Rays from deteriorating all Rubber, Vinyl, and Plastic.

Inspect your engine for leaks, and all fluid levels. Is it time to change oil?

Every 6 Months:

Repeat the 3-month check.

Lubricate all slides.

Check you air conditioning coils if you have been in a spot with a lot of Cotton wood seeds flying through the air.

Every 12 months:

Chassis: The rear chasses grease fitting are not lubricated during an oil change.

A complete Chasses lube should be performed once a year.

Generator: Change Air, Fuel, Oil filters, and Oil.

Tires: Have they passed the 10 year mark, even though they look good, they need to be replaced.

Check all tires for cracks, and uneven wear.

Roof Air Conditioners: Your Air Conditioners coils need to be cleaned to prevent debris from building up.

See RV ROOFTOP AC MAINTENANCE.

Check your Windows, Are they getting Foggy?

If the windows are Safety Glass and getting foggy you should report it to the NTSB; As the Safety film and the glass are separating. These need to be replaced.

If you have double pane windows or two pieces of glass per window you can have them repaired.

If you keep up with the above suggestions, you will have less trouble down the road.
